La'l is crafted from an exceptionally rare and distinctive African wood; a hard, dense, and visually striking material with excellent stability and resistance to pressure, the passage of time, humidity, and temperature changes.
The unique tonal character of La'l reveals itself across the santur’s three playing positions. In the yellow position, the sound is powerful, firm, and full-bodied. In the white position, it is clear, balanced, and resonant. Behind the bridges, the instrument produces an exceptionally clear, delicate, full, and beautiful tone. Its controlled sustain also allows the notes to remain clean and clearly separated.
The appearance of the wood is just as distinctive as its sound. Its natural curls and figures appear in scattered patterns across the surface, as though the wood had been kissed in different places and the traces of those kisses had remained.
La'l brings together the strength of an exceptional wood, a unique visual character, and a dreamlike, rich, and powerful sound.
